WEB USABILITY EXPERT
Job Summary/ Major Duties and Resp Abilities / Skills / Competencies
onsibilities
• Perform post-development usability checks to determine whether finished product has met business and usability objectives and advise on improvements
• Develop web usability guidelines and other project documentation as required
• Visualise the end result of paper-based sites yet to be created, provide advice on usability issues identified, suggest improvements, communicate persuasively to obtain originator’s buy-in
• Perform daily usability and quality control inspections on SGS web sites (corporate, country and mini-sites) to identify areas needing improvement, errors and inconsistencies, and non-standards-compliant layout and content. Make recommendations for improvements to promote greater ease of use and an improved user experience. Ensure successful implementation of identified improvements as agreed with sgs.com Geneva team
• Support sgs.com Geneva team in other Web projects and ad hoc tasks, providing reports and recommendations as required
• Stay up-to-date with industry best practice, official standards, public trends and suggest adoption where useful
• Deal with unusual and complex usability requests from affiliates, oversee communication between team members and affiliates
• Provide fortnightly usability training sessions with WCP team
• Regular reporting to sgs.com Geneva representative regarding individual and team performance against deliverables, areas requiring improvement, personal development, customer satisfaction etc.
Minimum Educational Attainment / Course
• Degree or Diploma in Cognitive Psychology, HCI, Computer Science, Human Factors/Ergonomics or related qualification
Work Experience / Special Training / Qualifications
• Fluent in English (preferably English native speaker) with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Minimum 5 years experience in Web usability, and able to show portfolio of relevant work
• Minimum 3 years experience in project and man management across a variety of industries
• Sound commercial awareness and the ability to quickly understand new industries, sectors and markets
• Strong awareness of SEO development and search engine functionality, and hands-on experience of integrating usability with the latest SEO best practice
• Broad knowledge of accessibility principles
• Understand the user base and how users interact with the structure of business lines and services on the sgs.com websites, being able to identify problem areas and create innovative solutions to improve the user experience
• Able to quickly demonstrate a working knowledge of all sgs.com web applications including content management systems
• Able to quickly gain an in-depth knowledge of sgs.com web publication standards and usability guidelines and the ability to implement all standards
• Understanding of the relationships between different areas of the business and how they relate to the structure of sgs.com websites in order to give the support needed to the team and affiliates
• Understand the principles of user-centred design, with strong experience in the design of websites/user interfaces/applications from both a development and user standpoint
• Able to produce aesthetic, well-organised, highly usable web pages
• Demonstrate team skills, effective communication, open-mindedness, and creativity
• A confident participator in brainstorming exercises and other collaborative efforts
• Good knowledge of the Web 2.0 arena

• A genuine belief in and passion for usability solutions and the value they deliver
• Knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS and W3C/industry standards
• Experience in user research, task analysis, functional/navigational flow diagrams, wire-framing, prototyping, user experience workshops, UAT, and the full design lifecycle
• Experience producing user-centred design work as an external consultant
• Familiarity with development and design tools such as Dreamweaver, Visio, Acrobat, and graphical tools such as Fireworks, Photoshop and Flash
• Additional languages an advantage
